050. “ANA” no Festival de Valladolid de 1982

SEMANA INTERNACIONAL DE CINE – VALLADOLID

ANA has great and beauty. It has great conviction. And ANA is a startlingly healthy movie. Health has something to do with the establishment of a harmonious balance inside ourselves, between ourselves and our environment, between our acts and the history of all our collective acts. I think all this is one of the subjects of the movie, it is there in the rhythm, in the time, in the image, in the people themselves. And I think it is there too in the spirit of work, the style and patience and respect, that made this movie possible.
As with any powerful experience you have to give yourself up to it. You have to let it in. You can't just sit there and say "But I thought it was going to be about this," or "I wanted that to happen." If you do that you just end up with yourself. And why bother? Especially when Antonio Reis and Margarida Cordeiro have so many secrets to share with us.
